The Grasshopper and the Cricket John Keats The poetry of earth is never dead. When all the birds are faint with the hot sun And hide in cooling trees,a voice will run From hedge to hedge about the new?mown mead That is the Grasshopper's.He takes the lead In summer luxury;he has never done With his delights, for when tired out with fun He rests at ease beneath some pleasant weed. The poetry of earth is ceasing never. On a lone winter evening, when the frost Has wrought a silence, from the stove there shrills The cricket's song,in warmth increasing ever,And seems to one in drowsiness half lost,The grasshopper's among some grassy hills.

I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of everyday's Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with a passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death. 。

I open my wallet, found no money I open my pocket, found no coin I open my heart, found you Suddenly,I realize how rich I am 。

When You Are Old When you are old and grey and full of sleep And nodding by the fire, take down this book And slowly read ,and dream of the soft look Yours eyes had once, and of their shadows deep. How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face; And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur,a little sadly, how love fled And paced upon the mountains overhead. And hid his face amid a crowd of stars . The First Day I wish I could remember the first day, First hour, first moment of your meeting me, If bright or dim the season, it might be Summer or winter for aught I can say So unrecorded did it slip away. So blind was I to see and foresee. So dull to mark the budding of my tree That would not blossom yet for many a May. Ifonly I could recollect it, such A day of day! I let it come and go. As traceless as a thaw of bygone snow; It seemed to mean so little, meant so much; Ifonly now I could recall that touch, First touch of hand in hand-Didone but know! I Remember I remember, I remember The house where I was born, the little window where the sun Came peeping in at morn: He never came a wink too soon, Nor brought too long a day, But now, I often wish the night Had borne my breath away! I remember, I remember The roses, red and white, The vi'lets, and the lily-cups, Those flowers made of light! The lilacs where the robin built, And where my brother set The laburnum on his birthday,-- The tree is living yet! I remember, I remember Where I was used to swing and thought the air must rush as fresh To swallows on the wing; My spirit flew in feathers then, That is so heavy now, And summer pools could hardly cool The fever on my brow! I remember, I remember The fir trees dark and high; I used to think their slender tops Were close against the sky; It was a childish ignorance, But now 'tis little joy To know I'm farther off from heav'n Than when I was a boy! REMEMBER REMEMBER me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go, yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you plann'd: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for awile And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that I once had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.。

Stray birds of summer come to my window to sing and fly away. And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, flutter and fall there with a sign.

O Troupe of little vagrants of the world, leave your footprints in my words. 3

The world puts off its mask of vastness to its lover. It becomes small as one song, as one kiss of the eternal. It is the tears of the earth that keep here smiles in bloom.

The mighty desert is burning for the love of a bladeof grass who shakes her head and laughs and flies away. If you shed tears when you miss the sun, you also miss the stars.

The sands in your way beg for your song and your movement, dancing water. Will you carry the burden of their lameness? Her wishful face haunts my dreams like the rain at night.

Once we dreamt that we were strangers. We wake up to find that we were dear to each other.

Sorrow is hushed into peace in my heart like the evening among the silent trees. Some unseen fingers, like an idle breeze, are playing upon my heart the music of the ripples.

What language is thine, O sea? The language of eternal question. What language is thy answer, O sky? The language of eternal silence.

Listen, my heart, to the whispers of the world with which it makes love to you.

The mystery of creation is like the darkness of night--it is great. Delusions of knowledge are like the fog of the morning. Do not seat your love upon a precipice because it is high.

I sit at my window this morning where the world like a passer-by stops for a moment, nods to me and goes. There little thoughts are the rustle of leaves; they have their whisper of joy in my mind.

What you are you do not see, what you see is your shadow. 19

My wishes are fools, they shout across thy song, my Master. Let me but listen. 20

I cannot choose the best. The best chooses me. They throw their shadows before them who carry their lantern on their back.

That I exist is a perpetual surprise which is life.

We, the rustling leaves, have a voice that answers the storms, but who are you so silent?" I am a mere flower. Rest belongs to the work as the eyelids to the eyes.

Man is a born child, his power is the power of growth. God expects answers for the flowers he sends us, not for the sun the earth.

The light that plays, like a naked child, among the green leaves happily knows not that man can lie. O Beauty, find thyself in love, not in the flattery of thy mirror.

My heart beats her waves at the shore of the world an。

and you hear me from far away and my voice does not touch you It seems as through your eyes had flown away and it seems that a kiss had sealed your mouth

as all things are filled with my soul

your emerge from the things, fill with my soul you are like my soul, a butterfly of dreams and you are like the word melancholy

I like for you to be still, and you seem far away It sounds as though you are lamenting, a butterfly cooing like a dove And you hear me from far away,

Poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its apparent meaning. Poetry may be written independently, as discrete poems, or may occur in conjunction with other arts, as in poetic drama, hymns or lyrics.

Poetry, and discussions of it, have a long history. Early attempts to define poetry, such as Aristotle's Poetics, focused on the uses of speech in rhetoric, drama, song and comedy. Later attempts concentrated on features such as repetition, verse form and rhyme, and emphasized the aesthetics which distinguish poetry from prose. From the mid-20th century, poetry has sometimes been more loosely defined as a fundamental creative act using language.

Poetry often uses particular forms and conventions to suggest alternative meanings in the words, or to evoke emotional or sensual responses. Devices such as assonance, alliteration, onomatopoeia and rhythm are sometimes used to achieve musical or incantatory effects. The use of ambiguity, symbolism, irony and other stylistic elements of poetic diction often leaves a poem open to multiple interpretations. Similarly, metaphor, simile and metonymy create a resonance between otherwise disparate images—a layering of meanings, forming connections previously not perceived. Kindred forms of resonance may exist, between individual verses, in their patterns of rhyme or rhythm.
